2025 – 2026 cohort
Do you live on campus and want to know more about trees? Do you want to learn about how climate change affects tree phenology? You can contribute to 25000+ observations on tree phenology from 48 educational campuses across the country by joining the Campus Phenology Network (CPN). CPN is a network of educational campuses asking the question – how does climate change affect tree phenology?
Tree phenology is the study of how trees put out leaves, flowers and fruits seasonally, a process linked intimately with the environment and climate change. As concerned citizens, one way of understanding the impacts of climate change is to systematically document the changes in tree phenology across the country.
How to participate?
Monitor weekly tree phenology for one year: Monitor a minimum of ten trees per species of one or more species from our list for a minimum of 23 weeks in one year
We will provide training and more details on how to participate in an introductory workshop in July 2025.
If you have already received training in March 2025, you are still welcome.
What is the project duration?
This is the second call into an ongoing third cohort of the project and the duration is one year, starting from July 2025.
The first induction was in April 2025.
How to join the Campus Phenology Network
You can join the network by filling out the registration form before 25 June 2025. We will share further details with you over email.
Previously registrations were done by 15 March. Those that have already registered, need not register again.
How can this benefit you?
- At the end of one year, all significant contributors (minimum 23 weeks of observations on all registered trees) and their colleges will receive a certificate of participation.
- All significant contributors will also become a part of the SeasonWatch Citizen Scientist Network which will be credited in all publications arising from this data.
- As a student or educator living on campus, the CPN will provide you with the opportunity to network with other academics through profile pages on the SeasonWatch website.
- You will have the opportunity to participate in a capacity-building workshop where you can learn skills such as data analysis, inference, presentation, and creative writing.
- The CPN will also be a community and forum to learn more about trees, climate change and the environment.
